Alaska: 72 Hours in the Land of Midnight Sun

With 20+ hours of sunlight and abundant beauty at every turn, Alaska in June is a true midsummer night’s dream.

For as long as I can remember, Alaska has been at the top of my bucket list, but somehow I never made the trip happen. In typical BrownGirlsFly fashion, my call-to-action was an irresistible flight deal to Anchorage. When I booked my flights, I was hyper-focused on how the dates would fit into my increasingly packed schedule, and I didn’t realize until a few weeks before leaving that I would be in America’s northern most state just before the summer solstice. I was super excited abut the extra sunlight and Alaska did not disappoint. Even though my trip lasted only 72 hours, the longer days made it easy to pack in a lot of fun! Here are some of my favorite moments from the trip.

Parting Thoughts

When Crystal and I travel, we love to create “urban with a side of nature” experiences, spending most of our time in the cosmopolitan culture of a big city with a bit of respite in neighboring natural landscapes. This trip to Anchorage, I’d classify as the opposite — “nature with a side of urban” — and I loved every minute of it. Seventy-two hours was not long enough to take it all in. I’m already planning my next trip there!

I traveled to Alaska (Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan) three years ago, and I thought it was one of the prettiest and cleanest places I’ve ever been. It was lovely and relaxing, so I was pleased to see your wonderful photos, and to read about your adventures. Thank you.

Wow! U packed a lot in in 72 hours! And what a great flight deal. The natural beauty, wildlife and quaint towns make it a must for me one day. I will have to work on my nerves for the helicopter ride!

Hey Nadine! Yes the extra sunlight felt like I could squeeze in double the fun into less time. I hope you get to go there soon. Oh and my flight over Denali was actually in a small airplane. It was smooth sailing and so worth it! Hope you enjoy it 🙂

Very cool pictures! Thanks for sharing these.
I was in Anchorage on the 20th and the 21st of June for the solstice and had a great time myself.

I even caught a glimpse of the strawberry moon.
    It’s a beautiful place.

Thanks Kerwin! I’m so glad you liked the photos. Sounds like we just missed each other by about a week. Maybe we’ll cross paths on the next trip! Isn’t Anchorage fab? Glad you enjoyed it as well.
